We see bolts of lightning during rainy season. Some of these bolts strike the objects in earth. My question is why they never strike aeroplanes flying through the clouds in rainy season?

It is true,but we see the bolts of lightning which doesn't reach earth. If a plane comes in contact with such discharge, will it not be affected. The charge which causes lightning is so high that  it can jump even atmosphere which is a good insulator. So if u can elaborate little more on this it would have been more clear. Thanks.
