consider a straight wire....
hold it in your right hand,dude...
now the direction in which to finger points is the direction of magnetic field or rather electric field lines.....
and your thumb should b in the upward direction
to make it brief consider the thumbs-up logo
in which the wire is inside ur hand....
thus the thumb indicates electric field
