I am assuming the cake is circular, rather cylindrical with the height relatively smaller than the radius. First cut: along the diameter. Put one semicircle on top of another. Second cut: bisecting the diameter perpendicularly. Third cut: parallel to the diameter, midway. So you now have four pieces of the first semicircle and similar four pieces from the second; total 8 pieces. Yes, pieces are dissimilar in size and shape, but it is not specified that the pieces have to be same.
