You must've realised that when water falls on something,it makes it look darker.Any idea why that happens?

Well that is because of the light emitted form a wet fabric is different from light emitted from a dry one. When light hits the surface of the wet material some of the light will scatter (reflect) from the water. so the amount of light returning to the user is a lot lesser than it would've been if the fabric was not soaked. It is this less light coming from the wet region that makes it look darker.
cheers!
