accoring to rayleigh scaterring law the amount of light scaterred in inversely proportional to to fourth power of the wave lenght of light .
since red light has the longest wave lenght it is less scaterred and hence used in traffic lights

Red light has the longest wavelength & hence is least scattered.


Hence it is easily visible & used in traffic lights.
