A boy claps his hands once every second and hears the echo from a distant building . he hears the echo of each cla[p midway betn it and the next clap . if the velocity of sound is 340m/s what is the distance of the building from boy?

The distance is such that time taken by clapping sound to strike the wall and come back = 0.5 s
(as the clapping interval is 1 second)
Thus if distance between the wall and boy = D
Then 2D/ v = 0.5 s
here v = 340m/s
or D = 0.5 * v / 2 = 0.5 * 340 / 2 = 85 m

Acc to the data given it takes 0.5s for the sound to go to the cliff, reflect and come back
for going once it takes 0.25s
distance= 340x0.25 =85 m
