What is the principle behind Post-Office Box? Pl. explain application of principle.

It is a wheatstone bridge kind of system in which you can very the ratio of resistances. By doing so you can find resistance of a coil very precisely. Suppose i have an unknown resistance. I am unable to give complete description of it here in such a small post. But i would like to explain by an example. Suppose i have an unknown resistance. One of the setting will tell me that it lies between 40 and 50. Then in the next setting (by changing ratio of resistances) i will be able to know that its resistance is between 47 and 48. In third setting I will know that it is between 47.5 and 47.8. This way with each new setting i can know the resistance by one more decimal point. This was i can measure the resistance very accuretly.
