the center of mass of ur body will usually be off the central line of the cycle and a torque will come into play and u will fall to one side...

The cycle can't be balanced while standing because, it is difficult to adjust the center of mass on the rim.... i.e. on the line joining the two wheels....

 

But if u bring the center of mass on the line joining the two wheels, then u will have no problems in balancing it...

But when u r paddling the cycle, a force known as gyroscopic force comes into act. This force help to balance a moving cycle...
