A student measures the thjickness of a human hair by looking at it through a microscope of magnification 100. He makes 20 observations and finds that the avg. width of the hair in the field of view of microscope is 3.5mm. what is the estimate on the thickness of hair?

Magnification of 100 means two points seperated by unit distance will appear to be seperated by 100 units in microscope.
If thikness of hair is 3.5 mm in microscope, its true thickness is 3.5/100=0.035mm

Magnification by 'n' times means increasing the overall dimensions of the object by 'n' tines. Hence in this sum, the actual dimensions can be given if the observed dimensions are diminished by 100 times. Hence we have the ans to be 3.5/100=.035mm
