A physical quantity is measured and the result is expressed as nu where u is unit used and n is the numerical value. If the result is expressed in various units then-: a.n is directly prop. to size of u b.n is prop. to u sq. c.n is prop. to sqrt. of u d.n is prop. to 1/u and explain sideways

Hi Siddhanth,
The ans is d).
Now suppose you are measuring the length of a thread. You found it to be 1 metre. Here n=1 and u is metre. Now if you express it in kilometres then it will be 1/1000km ie n is prop to 1/u.ie as the value of a unit increases the numerical value decreases.
If you are satisfied then I'm waiting for a salute...!

the ans is (a).....see the example in the second post is very specific....n is proportional to how big the unit u is ...when m to cm them the unit is 100 times bigger...when m to km them unit u is 1000 times smaller or 1/1000 bigger....so it is proportional...right!!!!

n is proportional to 1/u is correct. Bcos, lets consider a quantity 1000g . Whether u express it as 1000g or 1kg makes no difference.i.e, u r using the law of equivalency . i.e, as u r making the unit larger, u r making the numerical value smaller so as to maintain the balance of quantity. Hence (d) is correct.

hiii, The answer is option [d] for u to understand, n u implies if n INCREASES "u" SHOULD INCREASE.it is said as "n" is directly proportional to "u". n 1/u implies if n INCREASES 1/u SHOULD INCREASE or "u" should DECREASE.it is said as "n" is inversely proportional to "u" pl correct me if i am wrong hope this helps you.if so dont forget to rate me. cheers!!

well i too think the answer is [d].. since as the the units increase the numerical value decrases. Like we have suppose 1 m for an example . it is expressed as 100 cm and 1/1000km so as the unit decreases the numerical value increases and vice-versa so n is directly prop. to 1/u and hence the [d] option is correct.
