with 2 forces acting at a point the maximum effect is obtained, their resultant is 4N.if they act as right angles their resultant is 3N.find forces.

let the vectors be a and b
a+b=4
a2+b2=32=9
a2+b2+2ab=16
hence 2ab=7
ab=7/2
b=4-a
a(4-a)=7/2
8a-2a2=7
2a2-8a+7=0
a=8+- 8/4
=2+-1/ 2
so the vector magnitudes are
2+1/ 2 and 2-1/ 2
