a gas when heated , its molecules gain kinetic energy . due to gain in kinetic energy , we say that they are less dense as compared to cold gas....

see , mass is same but mass in a given volume of air is less due to greater kinetic energy. of molecules..

cold gas moecules with less kinetic energy appear to have less movement..and so appear dense.

 

so the hot gases with lower density rises up.....
