why -ve X -ve is positive............any idea.....

means
-1 is added to itself -1 times
(just as 2x2 means 2 is added to itself 2 times)
means -1 is subtracted from itself 1 time
in other words
i can say it like dat
1 is subracted from itself -1 time]
or
1 is added to itself 1 time
this is equal to 1
this is applicable for ne two -ve quantities ....just as u asked

u knw what .......this was all theoretical which was done because u knew that -ve X -ve is +ve....thats all.i was looking for something that could tell me how it was first done or derived

i did it by using d most basic definition of multiplication >>>addition
d more i am looking at it..
d more i am thinking dat this was wat done to prove it originally ...
(and also...my sol is not answer oriented)

haha....well i have an answer for that....see to develop something we have to define a starter but the algebraic rules are not made or assumed just like that.....they are seen practically by applying them in different areas.....may be that is a reason for that...may be but who knows...the one who first made this rule may have thought differently and derived this from something...so u cant just run away from problems like these....rather we should search and think these very basic fundamentals...to get our doubts cleared

2x(-3) = -2 + -2 + -2

i think u r doing it very very conventionally....and without any valid proof...ur answer is answer oriented yaar....i dnt knw why but i am not satisfied.....just suppose urself that u r a mathematician and u have to find -n X -n...then hw will u proceed pure mathematically.....nw think again

hmm u got too emotional i got it....just search why is negative multiplied by negative is positive in google....click the first option and see the second answer...that is a more systematic approach
