is this a question 4m the topic lenses? if so, i think the necessary criteria shuld be :- 1) equal refractive index 2) equal radius of curvature
|

maybe because different wave lenghts of light are refracted in a different angle. therefore they do not converge at one single point in the axis
|

Hi julie, chromatic abberation cannot be removed for a single lens due to prismatic behaviour.Hence a combination of lenses is used. IT CAN BE ELIMINATED IN FOLLOWING WAYS 1)When lenses are in contact : w1/w2= -f1/f2 2)When lenses are kept at distance: the distance should be d=(w1*f2+w2*f1)/(w1+w2) NOTE: if lenses are of same material and nature the combination will act as achromatic doublet for d=(f1+f2)/2 with feq=f1*f2/d
