is this a question 4m the topic lenses?
if so, i think the necessary criteria shuld be :-
1) equal refractive index
2) equal radius of curvature

maybe because different wave lenghts of light are refracted in a different angle. therefore they do not converge at one single point in the axis

Hi julie,
chromatic abberation cannot be removed for a single lens due to prismatic behaviour.Hence a combination of lenses is used.
IT CAN BE ELIMINATED IN FOLLOWING WAYS
1)When lenses are in contact : w1/w2= -f1/f2
2)When lenses are kept at distance: the distance should be d=(w1*f2+w2*f1)/(w1+w2)
NOTE: if lenses are of same material and nature the combination will act as achromatic doublet for d=(f1+f2)/2 with feq=f1*f2/d

Do rate me !
