When we wave our hands very fast in front of an ordinary light (a bulb or a tube light) we see the image of our hand waving in a continuous motion (though it seems blurred and distorted).
But when we do the same in front of a computer screen or a TV the motion of our hand appears as if it is viewed in frames (with some pauses in between).
Why is it so?

amazing question dude! is it bcoz of persistence of vision + rate of emmission of photons from the 2 sources (rate being faster from the light bulb)??? pls say if im right or wrong ie. bulbs poton emmision rate is lesser than 1/16th of a second magnitude wise(human eye percieves objects in frames of 1/16 of a second) but, comp & tv screen the rate is more than 1/16th of second magnitudewise (ie. magnitude of fraction)

gr8 question..... hey wt i think is dat we knw dat both tube light and d comp screen doesnt emit light in a continuous manner... d rate of of FLASHING sd light( if i may say so)... is faster in case of a tube light dan a comp screen... moreover d screen in a comp shows pictures in a slide format running from top 2 bottom so wen we move our hands fastly infront of it we see as iff dey r like captures and not a continuous movement....!!!!!!
Pls.. tell me if i m wrong.. lol..

I think, It is because the flickering of screen is very prominent on compute screen. So this flickering causes the effect. Moreover before the TV screen flickering is further higher. so try this before your TV screen too.

The Scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, & he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, life would not be worth living. Ofcourse I do not here speak of that beauty that strikes the senses, the beauty of qualities & appearances; not that I undervalue such beauty, far from it, but it has nothing to do with science; I mean that profounder beauty which comes from the harmoniuos order of the parts, & which a pure intelligence can grasp. |

hey dude, the tv and tubelight are both i think different discharge tubes and they flicker at a rate > once in 1/16 of second. u can see this effect in tublights by moving your eyes rapidly from one side to another. it looks somewahat like this (for a vertical tubelight): |||||||||||||
