We know that product of slope of perp. lines is -1.So,since x-axis and y-axis are perpendicular,the product of their slopes should be -1,i.e,0*infinity=-1.
What's wrong here??

first of all there is nothing called pi/2 in world of tangents..tanpi/2 doesn't exists..

tan(90) is infinity which doesnt exist-agreed.But doesnt the formula m1*m2=-1 hold for all cases??????No exceptions are defined....

Hey the slope of a line joining two points is y1-y2/x1-x2.
Now transform the given points by 90degrees in the anticlockwise direction.
The new points you get are (-y1,x1) and (-y2,x2)
Now slope of this line is x1-x2/y2-y1
If you multiply both the slopes, you get -1.
But see if the first line is vertical then x1=x2, that means '0' in the denominator.
m1m2=-1 shouldn't be used whenever one of the given lines is vertical.

(dont u think i dont have tough ones,i m just asking as it is of a different breed)
ques) theres a quad equation given to iitians A and B.
A makes mistake in the constant term and gives roots 5,-3.
B makes mistake in the co eff of x and gives roots 1,-3.
what u have to tell me is the real roots of the equation!!

1/0=infinity
1/infinity=0
-1/0=negative infinity (the other side...

the roots are -1,3
the sum of the roots is correct in 1 eqn.
prod. of the roots are correct in another eqn..so club these 2 and u will get the correction.
