once there was a conversation b/w lalu & kalam. lalu ask a qn. to kalam. he said that he has 3 childs the product of whose ages is 36 & the sum of ages is the house no. of kalam..find the age. kalam was not able to answer .

then lalu gave another hint that his youngest child has blue eyes. then kalam gave the answer at once . now the qn. is u tell me their ages

Since 36=(2^2)(3^2)

Thus the possible ages of the 3 children are : 9 yr,2yr,2yr OR 4yr,3yr,3yr OR 6yr,3yr,2yr

Since Laloo mentioned that his smallest child has blue eyes it means that Laloo has only one child who is smallest among the 3. Thus the first 2 possibilities r ruled out.

Hence the ages of the 3 children are

6 years
3years
2years

here is the answer to this riddle.

let us write the no.s which make their product = 36

diff. prob. r

6, 6,1-------sum= 13

9,4,1 ---------sum=14

36,1,1------sum=38

3,12,1--------sum=16

2,18,1---sum=21

6,3,2----------sum=11

2,9,2-----------sum=13

here r 2 cases where the sum =13 now in case 2,9,2- there r 2 small child

therefore, the correct answer is 6,6,1

Shubham is it necessary that the sum of their ages is going to be 13.

I think as the sum is not known, following r the possible answers :

6,6,1
6,3,2
18,2,1
12,3,1
9,4,1

If Kalam was quick to respond when he got the hint , this means that he was a little confused with two or three combinations.....and the combinations would have troubled him only if both the sum as well as the product of the ages are common ....so my dear friend ...what shubham answered is correct ....the answer is 6,6,1
