here is a question with answer.just explain me the step marked with (*)
None

1.a,b,c form a G.P with common ratio r then the sum of the ordinates of the points of intersection of the line ax+by+c = 0 and x+2y2 =0 is:
ans:
>   -(by + c) / a  + 2y2 = 0
>    2ay2 - by - c = 0
>  (*)  y1 + y2 = b/2a = ar/2a = r/2
in the 3rd step how y1 + y2 = b/2a?
