A hyperbola having the transverse axis of length 2sin,is confocal with the ellipse 3X2+4Y2=12,Then what will be its equation?
 
Please explain clearly.

e of ellipse is 1/2.

So foci are (1,0) and (-1,0)

Now given 2a = 2sin@ => a = sin@

ae = 1
e = 1/sin@

b^2 = a^2(e^2 -1)
b^2 = sin^2@(cos^2@/sin^2@) = cos^2@

So equation is x^2/sin^2@ - y^2/cos^2@ = 1
