if you draw the diag. and apply the prop. that tangents to a circle from an ext. pt. are of equal length

we get the perimeter to be 8+2(hypotonuse) =48.

after the previous step if we use Pythagorean Theorem

we get 400 = (x + 4)² + (y+4)²

and x+y =20 by solving we get x = 8, y = 12 (we can sub. and check)

so the sides are 20 , 4+8 , 4+12 = 20,12,16

now 20:12:16 = 5:3:4

therefore it is similar to a tri. with sides 3,4,5.

Use the property that the 2 tangents from a point to a circle are equal

so sum of sides is x + 20-x + 4 + x + 4 + 20-x

= 20 + 20 + 4 + 4

= 48
