If the distance of any pt(x,y) from the origin is defined as d(x,y)=MAX{ IxI,IyI} then the locus of the point (x,y) where d(x,y)=1 is

1) A circle                          2) A square

3) A triangle                        4) A rectangle

by the definition of d.... there are four pts on the coordinate axis which satisfy this condition....(1,0 (-1,0) (0,1) (0,-1)

The only figures which can pass thru these pts are ... circle,square nd rectangle....

in a circle the distance of the pt from the center is alyays one....hence this is ruled out...

in a rectangle there is a point where the the distance from the origin becomes sqrt(2) (vertices).... hence it is ruled out...

hence by elemination.. the only figure left is square

MOST PROBABLY IT IS SQUARE

bcoz
mod(x).mod(y)=1 then
1.x=1,y=1
2.x=-1,y=1
3.x=-1,y=-1
4.x=1,y=-1

these four points form a square

DO NOT FOLLOW MY WAY.
IT'S TOO DANGER.

since d(x,y)=1 and max{mod x, mody}=d(x,y) we havemod x=1 i.e x=+1 or -1 similarlly y=+1 or -1.so they are strait lines which form a square
