Two cylinders A and B fitted with pistons contain equal amounts of an ideal diatomic gas at 300 K.Teh piston of A is free to move,while that of B is held fixed.Same amount of heat is given to the gas in each cylinder.If the rise in temperature of the gas in A is 30 K,then what is the rise in temperature of the gas in B?

Thanks,
Ram.

hey is the answer 50 K ??
also, r u sure this is the complete question . bcoz i had to assume that gas A expands isobarically !!

light travels the fastest ??? NO
wherever light goes it always finds that darkness has already got there

Since piston in A is free to move , hence the process in A is isobaric.

Hence heat given to cylinder A = nCp(T) = 30nCp

Since piston B is held fixed , hence the process in B is isochoric.

Hence heat given to cylinder B = nCv(T) = nCv(T)

Since same amount of heat is given :

nCv(T) = 30nCp

T = (Cp/Cv)30 = (7/5)30 = 42 K    (for diatomic gases Cp/Cv = 7/5)
