water equivalent is the mas of water in grams which would require the same amount of heat to aise its temperature by 1degreeC as the body when heated through the same temp. difference

Right Ashish. Water equivallent of a substance is equall to that mass of water which has a heat capacity equall to that of substance. Mathematicaly speaking water equivalent of a substance - mass of substance*it's specific heat/specfic heat of water.
For ex. water equivalent of a 50 g copper calorimeter (specific heat 0.5 cal/g/oC) will be 50*0.5/1=25 g (specific heat of water is 1 cal/g/oC)
