amphoteric oxide , like for example,Al2O3 give Al(OH)3 on reaction with water considering this i thing that amphoteric oxides give their hydroxides on treatment with water

rockey says you get an acid and you are saying you get a base. Actually it depends on how you see it Al2O3 +2H2O = 2HAlO2 Al2O3 + 3H2O = 2Al(OH)3 Both the above reactions are feasible while the first product is acidic the second ine is basic

Actually amphoteric oxides give both acids & bases I think..
