Bleaching powder

None

Please tell me the molecular formula of bleaching powder.I think it is CaOCl₂ and it is given so in many books.But in chemistry olympiad (NSEC) in 2000 and 2005-2006 question paper the same question was asked and the answer given was Ca(OCl)₂.So please help.

someone in my class had once asked the same , so i was searching my register where i had noted it

see.. in ncert, its given the formula for bleaching powder is Ca(OCl)2.CaCl2.Ca(OH)2.2H2O, my sir told it is equivalent to CaOCl2

the formula for bleaching powder is CaOCl2(calcium oxy-chloride)..I GUESS THE FORMULA IN THE OLYMPIAD WAS WRONG....

yeah the formula CaOCl2 is definitely right and wat was given in the olympiad is wrong

formula is CaOCl2 which is known as calsiumcholoro hypoclorite or Caoxycloride.
