Is CO ( carbon monoxide) a neutral oxide or acidic oxide?
CO reacts with NaOH to give HCOONa hence acting like acid.
But in some places I've seen that CO is neutral oxide....what is this discrepancy? which is correct?

although i m not iitian bt m giving my views Co doesn't have acidic or basic properties in terms of H+, it behaves as a lewis base in Ni(CO)4.. its a neutal oxide.

Then sir ........it depends on the reaction or can we conclude it to be neutral oxide?

the reaction is NaOH + CO------>HCOO-Na+ this reaction is done under high pressure and 150. .... although underordinary condition CO is non salt forming oxide bt at elevated temp and pressure it behaves as acidic oxide thus forming formates. i think its clear now!!!

Sir, do u mean all neutral oxides when subjected to high pressure and temperature behave as acidic oxides ? or Is it only for CO?or there are few more?

NO is neutral oxide bt it doesnt show acid-base reaction with base and acid....reactions are there bt they are redox reactions.
