what is the method to find the colour of a metal ion by knowing the electronic configuration & the no of unpaired electrons in it. eg. how do i determine that Cu2+
is blue while Mn7+ is purple

hey .............look...........
by knowing the configuration.......we cant finf the colur of complex..............
 
but we can find whether it is colured or not.................
 
if it is unpaired then ..............colured................
otherwise ................not coloured(white) 
thats why Cu+ is white(paired)...........

Electronic configuration enables us to know whether the complex is coloured or not but it does not give any idea of the exact colour, it is found experimentally. If electrons are unpaired then the complex is coloured otherise its not.
