ions and molecules like CN-, SCN- , CNO-, N3- etc r known as pseudo halide as they shoe all properties of Halogen

Most of them form diatomic gases like (CN)2 analogous to F2,Cl2 etc.....

PSEUDO HALOGENS ARE UNIVALENT IONS CONSISTING OF TWO OR MORE ATOMS OF WHICH ATLEAST ONE IS NITROGEN AND HAVE PROPERTIES SIMILAR TO HALOGEN. FOR EG.

anions : CN^-, SCN^-, NCN^-2

acids : HCN, HSCN, H₂NCN

dimer : (CN)₂ , (SCN)₂

*** CN^-shows maximum similarities with hallides

all species carrying properties similar to halides are called pseudo halides,but this doesnt mean RCOO- IS A Pseudo halide coz it has high e- tendency unlike halogen

a good e.g. may be SCN-

Remember pseudo halide must attract shared pair

should have high electronegativity

MOST OF PSEUDO HALOGEN HAVE THE MOST ELECTRONEGATIVE ELEMENTS

O,N(OF COURSE THEY ARE LESS ELECTRONEGATIVE THAN FLOURINE BUT MUCH MORE E.N. THEN

Cl,Br,etc
