Water in d presence of a stronger acid acts as a base (as per Bronsted concept) i.e it accepts a H+ , while in d presence of a stronger base, it acts as an acid (4m Bronsted concept) i.e gives a H+

with NH3 it acts as an acid


NH3 + H2O ---------> +


with H2S it acts as a base


H2S + H2O --------->


this is because, it undergoes ionization to give and ions
