1.volatile nature depends upon Molecular mass and type of attraction.heavy compounds are less volatile. this implies HF should be most volatile and HI should be least. but H-bonding in HF makes it least volatile. hence the order is HCl> HBr>HI >HF

  1. HF is least volatile since its molecules are associated through H bonds
  2. Boron has max co-ordination 3 due to absence of d orbital. But 3 atoms around it does not satisfy its octect. So it is a electrom deficient compound.
  3. -
  4. consider its structure.there's one =o,2 O-H bonds and one P-H bon.the two O-H bonds cleave in aq medium giving two H.So it is a diprotic acid.
  5. Inert pair effect.+5 state is unstable and it reduces to +3 state. So,good oxidizing agent.

2. Boron has 2s2 2p1 hence it can form maximum 3 bonds which implies it can have not more than 6 electrons in its outer most shell hence it cannot have complete octet.

since its gives out two OH- ions attached to Phosphorus.

c. In silanes Si has empty d-orbitals which can accomodate the lone pair electrons of water , so they get hydrolysed. In the same way branes are hydrolysed too due to the electron deficient nature of B and so it accepts electrons from water.

e.Bi has +5 charge and hence has strong affinity for electrons in pentavalent compounds. This is the reason why it acts as OA.
