Ques: a solution of ferric chloride acidified with HCl is unaffected when hydrogen is bubbled thru it, but gets reduced when zinc is added to the same acidified solution.explain with proper reasoning & write the reactions involved.

when hydrogen is bubbled into the soln. the hydrogen is below ferric in the reactivity series so it is unaffected.but in case of zinc the ferric is below the zinc so it gets reduced. Reactivity Series: K>Na<Ca>Mg>Al>Zn>Fe>Pb>H>Hg>Ag>Au. FeCl 3+HCl+H2 no reaction FeCl3+HCl+Zn ZnCl2+FeCl2
