i am having a prob in calculating the hyb of coordination comp

i am having a prob in calculating the hyb of coordination comp can any one guide??

and do we have to learn the structure of complex ligands

klike diethylene triamine

and other complex structures if yes then how shud i manage it ?

and also tell me outer orbital; complex and iner orbital complex

first find the charge on the central metal atom and then write the e config of the charged metal atom....now see if the incoming ligand is strong fild or weak field if it is strong field then pairing will take place if not no paring....after u have finished it see how many orbitals u need for the ligands it will be 4 or 6 the diff types of hybridisations u can get r sp3 sp3d2 d2sp3 dsp2(i a not vry sure of dp2 i think i is there) now depending on which orbitals r available u ind th hyb. u ive me som q in hich u face difficulty it would b easy to explain......and u ned not know the structures of ligands......as i mentiond above if pairing has took place and the inner d orbitals r involved in the hybridisation then u call it inner orbital complex if no paring has taken place and the outer orbital is involved in hybridisation then u call it outer orbital complex....
