Metallic character increases down the group i.e. ease of forming +ve ions increases down the group. now due 2 intermolecular repulsion between molecules of more electro+ve elements melting n boiling pt. r low whereas the elements on the top r more covalent in nature thus more neutral than those at the bottom i.e. there is negligible intermolecular repulsion as compared 2 those at the bottom.. I m not sure of my ans. plz correct my mistakes if u find any.

in this regard, fajan's rule is imp 2,for eg comparing bet nacl and mgcl2,mgcl2 has lesser melting pt than nacl as it has more covalent character[grtr the charge on cation grtr the polarisation power.simillarly, going down the grp polarisation powwer decand ionic ch increases

its not due to formation of ions repulsion is due to presence of electrons rest is correct

melting point & boiling point along a group......... as v move down in a group, the metallic nature increases so the melting and the boiling pt also increases i suppose iam not wrong...if so do correct me!!!!... do rate me ..if u like it.........

I think the bp increases down the group cuz metal-metal bond strength decreases down the group due to increasing size of the atoms. m not sure. plz correct me if i'm wrong......
