Hard acids are those which are difficult to oxidise have higher electronegativity, high polarizing power
ex- H+

soft acids are those which are easy to oxidise have lower electronegativity, low polarizing power

hard acids are hard to donate H+ ion or accept OH- ion. soft acid are easy to donate H+ ion or accept OH- ion.
corresponding to this is true for hard and soft bases.

Hard acid is a Lewis acid with an acceptor centre of low polarizability. It preferentially associates with hard bases rather than with soft bases, in a qualitative sense. Conversely a soft acid possesses an acceptor centre of high polarizability.
