Explain why the energy of the 3d level abruptly falls below that of the 4s level around Z = 21.

it is due to n + l rule
the orbital which has more value of n + i quantom no.s has more energy
bt in this case in both n + l = 4
in these cases orbital with less value of n has higher energy

i think
it is due to poor shieldin effect of d orbital

this is explain by n+l stability rule ,lowern+l orbital fill first because they come near to nucleus so these are more stable.in case of 4s n+l value is 4 while in case of 3d n+l 5 so electron filling first in 4s due to more stability.but always remember if we remove electron and form cation 4th shell come outer so remove electron first from 4s.if in the system n +l value are similer electron goes where n value is less.for ex 6p and 7s value of n+l is similer so electron comes erlier in 6p.

it comes from n+l rule and n+l rule comes from screening effect and other electrostatic and nuclear forces

apply n+l rule Which has least value that has lower energy and vice-versa 3d=3+2=5 4s=4+0=4 hence 3d has more energy rate my reply if u like it

You all have answered incorrectly. The question is that energy of 3d level is lower than that of 4s level around Z=21. Give reason for it
