in fehlings reaction,v get ared ppt due to the presence of cuprous ions wich hav a config of 3d 10.all the orbitals of the d subshell r fully filled then how does the d-d transition take place leading to the colour of the ppt????

while answering dis qsn we hv to see some things. d first one is dat when Cu forms ions, it exists as 4s2 3d9.

agian from definition of transitional metals we got dat these elements possess partially filled d-orbitals. but in fehlings reaction, cuprous ion i.e. Cu+ ion is formed whose configuration is 3d10. therefore Cu, Cu+ ion, Zn etc. r not considered as transitional metal. So, we cant consider d-d transition of Cu+ ion in dis case.
