why does Walden Inversion takes place in SN2 reactions??

in sn2 reaction there is back attack of nucleophile so original configuration just reverse .in mallic acid first stuied by walden so known as walden inversion.thisis fevoured by aprotic solvent.like DMSO,DMF,HTMP,ACETONE etc.
