A STUDENT HEATS 3.000G OF CRYSTALLINE CuSO4.5H2O UNTIL IT IS CONVERTED INTO ANHYD.CuSO4.
SHE REPOTS THE ANHYDROUS COMP. 2 HAV A MESURED MASS OF 2.000g. WAT IS THE STUDENT'S APPROXIMATE PERCENT ERROR IN THE MASS OF THE ANHYD. COMP, ASSUMING THE MOLARMASSES OF THE HYDRATE AND THE ANHYD. COMPOUND 2 B 249.17mol-1 and 159.6g mol-1 respectively

m.wt of water content=249.17-159.6=89.57g
so there is 89.57 of water in 249.17g of hydrate.
amt of water x is in 3g of hydrate
x=89.57*3/249.17=1.07g
so wt of anhyd shud be 3-1.07=1.93g
but the wt is 2.00g
so error%=1.93*100/2 =96.5%
hope this helps
