A soln. when diluted with H2O and boiled,it gives a white ppt.On addition of excess NH4OH/NH4Cl,the vol.of ppt decreases leaving behind white gelatinous ppt.Identify the ppt.which dissolves in NH4OH/NH4Cl.

Hi

I think the Solution is Al(OH)3  . Because Al+3 is the only basic radical in the 3rd group which gives gelatinous white ppt.  This white ppt is soluble in bases like NaOH.

Cheers!

kiran thnx .but d ans is zinc hydroxide.what i guess is at first, the solution contains both zn and Al hydroxides.after by treating wid ammonium hydroxide/ammonium chloride,zn hydroxide dissolves and the vol.of ppt.decreases and Al hydroxide remains.as v know that Al hydroxide is a gelatinous ppt,the dissolved ppt shud be zn hydroxide!i thought logically.if this is wrong plz dont mind!!!
