What are gerade orbitals ??

Engineering Entrance , Medical Entrance , AIPMT , JEE Main , AIIMS , JEE Advanced , Chemistry , Inorganic Chemistry

what are gerade orbitals and what are the use of them in Questions?

gerade orbitals are the orbitals which has even no.of nodal planes n=0,2,4.......that all comes from wave function of orbitals.....

eg-two s orbitals with same phase has 0 nodal planes and hence it is a gerade orbital......while when two s orbitals of diff. phase approach each other then nodal plane is 1 and hence ungerade orbitals.....

remember in same phase there is constructive interference hence orbitals overlap while when phase are diff. they kinda repel which causes a nodal plane.....
