dry HCl is covalent . it does not give H+ ions . so it is not a acid

see dude dry HCl cannot liberate ions.Hence HCl(dry) has a neutral behaviour towards dry blue litmus paper.
If u find my explanation right/satisfactory plzzzzz...rate me.

according to sriram-dry HCl cannot liberate ions.Hence HCl(dry) has a neutral behaviour towards dry blue litmus paper. or maybe, the litmus paper must be moist!

acc to arrhenius concept acid furnishes h+ ions in aq med when hcl is dry it is polar wid delta +on h - on cl bt still it can not furnish ion

acc 2 arrhenius concept an acid is a substance which releases H+ ions in an aqueous solution...........
so my frnd dry hcl is not in aqueous solution so it wont release H+ ions and it is also a non polar covalent bond so it wont release H+ ions
samajh main aaya to
do rate me coz it is d most correct answer

as we know that fr a substance 2 b an acid it needs to liberate H+ ions due to which it can turn blue litmus red.
the main criterion is the presence of water.
therefore dry HCI acts that way.
cheers!!! rate if helpful

see since it is dry it cant dissociate to give H+ ions which are responsible for change in colour of litmus pppr........ a questi0on on same lines was asked once in olympiad.... wat will happen to ur hand if u put itin 100% conc HCl or any acid ??? well theoritical answer is that nothing will happen as there wil be no H+ ions dissociated t for acidic action!!!!
