why in NH3, N comes first

I mean, Why Ammonia is NH3 and water is H2O? Why not Ammonia is H3N? Why is this difference?

Rocky sir electronegativity of hydrogen is 2.1; nitrogen is 3; oxygen is 3.5, then why NH3 and H2O. Why not HN3 and H2O?. I am not understanding.

dude..!!! you are mistaken.... iupac applies for complete naming in chemistry.... its full form says intrnational union of pure n applied chemistry...!!!

IN H2O H SHOWS METTALIC BEHAVIOUR AS IT DISSOCIATES TO GIVE H+ JUST LIKE METAL CATIONS SO IN CASE OF HYDROGEN COMPOUNDS U ALLWAYS PLACE HYDROGEN FIRST AS PER CONVENTION THAT METAL FIRST NONMETAL SECOND NOW THIS APPLIES ONLY TO HYDROGEN COMPOUNDS LIKE H2O OR H2S .
IN CASE OF COVALENT BONDED MOLECULES COMAPRE THE METTALIC CHARECTER OF THE INDIVIDUAL UNIT ATOMS WHICH HAS HIGHER METTALIC CHARECTER COMES FIRST EG NF3 NO2 PCL4 OK. THIS EXPLAINS A PART OF UR QUERRY NOW IN CASE OF NH3 H HERE DOES NOT BEHAVE AS A METAL WOULD IN PLACE OF IT NOW SEE TAKE NF3 AND NH3 AND COMPARE THEIR BOND ENERGIES , THEN AS U KNOW NF3 IS COVALENT IF U FIND NH3 AND NF3 GIVING U COMPARABLE VALUES THEN SURELY NH3 IS COVALENT AND SO H THERE IS NOT LIKE A METTALIC HYDROGEN SO THERE COMES A DIFFERENCE IM NOT SURE ABT THIS NH3 INVESTIGATE IT I WILL LET U KNOW SOON

It is due to some historical reasons.... NH3 was called NH3 long before IUPAC made rules that less electronegetive element should appear first..... It did not feel the need to change the way it is written just to avoid confusion.. NH3 was used in many fields and changing the way it is written may create confusion.. So it is still NH3

h is more electropositive dont u know it resembles metals and h+ is more stable than h- n is more electronegative
