ITS BECAUSE........

interhalogen bonds are weaker when between two different halogens......(coz its partly ionic due to difference in electronegativities)

while when same halogens form X2 molecules they form covalent bonds which are stronger than former one.....

was a simple one.........

Cheersssssss..........

Thanx a lot Aatish..........but are covalent bonds always stronger than ionic bonds........it may be a silly doubt but i am really bad at chemistry

SEE covalent bonds are formed by sharing of electrons.....

BUT ionic on the other hand by transfer of electrons.......

The answer lies just in this basic thing........

Have a try at it yourself....you will get it and never forget it in future....
