Due to lanthanoid contraction, there isnt much difference in the ionic radii in lanthanoids and hence their chemistry is quite similar

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.

And moreover they have simillar oxidation state as well. All the changes taking place in 4f orbitals do not change the outer orbital configration

Lanthanides have the same outer electronic configuration, and the only change is in the anti penultimate shall. This is also in the f-orbitals thus due to their poor shielding effect the extra nuclear charge does not really have an effect on the outer shell.
