why the 1st I.E. of 5d elements are higher than those of 3d and 4d elements?

dude, due to poor screening/sheilding effect of f-electrons the size of the atom becomes too compact.... ie in 5d the charge density is a bit high than 3d-4d... reason is given above...hence is the reason for IE.
