Let me tell you that there are plenty of IIT Chemistry books available in the market, of which many are equally good. And you may find that different people would suggest you with different books.
I'll tell you, different books suite for different people. However, note that once you have a book with you, you better stick to it. Don't listen to others. Follow it religiously. Heard that Morrison & Boyd is really a good book to when it comes to concepts/theory. You may go for it, since you got enough time.
I don't know whether would it helpful to you if is say the books i use and how are they. I own Arihant books, for all inorganic, organic and physical. My review about the book is that, they are good ones. The theory is given point wise which makes easy to learn. That's what i like the most in them. BUT, it may be seem to be tough and you may start cursing it if you are not good at your basics. They have some solved examples at the end of every chapter, some problems to solve on your own, some MCQ's.
Alright friend, it's upto you. JUST FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF A PERSON YOU ARE, AND THEN CHOOSE THE BOOK THAT SUITES YOU. As a hint, i would ask you to check out text book's reviewed in GoIIT.
Wish you good luck...

for problems in physical chemistry....Refer either RC Mukherjee or P Bahadur(better) for inorganic, read NCERT and JD Lee for organic, refer MTG organic chemistry Arihant Physical and inorganic chemistry books are also good.....

Umm, Zeeshan, If U want my advice, I wud strongly say DONT BUY morrison boyd.U R a beginner, Pagal ho jaaoge. The buk's not meant for beginners. If U want a buk for organic, I can suggest U to buy the 2 buks I use- L.G. Wade, JR Peter Sykes
For physical- P Bahadur Inorganic- NCERT Complete chem- TMH

For good theory. Morrison and Byd is better than all but for a beginner its lyk killing poison...you will go mad by the time you understand any thing in it. Yes there are some books for Chemistry that are good at theory and also good knowon books: 1)Physical: P.Bahadur (has 2 sets) Physical Chem) (Not numericals) 2)Organic: MTG ........the best 3)Inorganic O.P.Agarwal....has got the best theory. Hope it helps. And plz do not go for foriegn books. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All this is nonsense. I've read morrison and boyd but its not worth. Go for jagdamba singh instead. Best for beginners. Two options available, IIT JEE pattern and chapterwise. Depends on what u like. I took the IIT pattern. Physics, DC Pandey and MCQs. for beginners try GC aggarwal. Nice book. maths, i don't know....

Aha! i had told you that you would get replies suggesting you to go for different replies. One suggestion by me is that you look out for books to get your basics right. Don't think of solving problems at this time. You may take time for it. Because if you have your basics right, then solving problems might come in handy.
Well, i see many people opposing Morrison & Boyd. Hmmm... Let me know your study habits. I mean the time you consume usually in learning a lesson, how far would you understand them.... Are you going for any coaching institution?

see........ do u have fiitjee material wid u....... then no need 4 worring abt. getting gud questions in maths and chemistry......... and 4 theory part get an arihant physics set........( old bks will do the best bcos of lot of theoritical quest. in that)........... dont do physics frm fiitjee material .. they r realy boring but in some chapters u may find it interesting.......... in physics never try to do many obj. type of quest....... try to do subj. quest. 4 atleast 1 year to make ur base strong..... set time period 4 completing each quest. concepts are very imp. in physics maths ....... try to be fast.... there is realy no theory book 4 maths. so u can directly go for fiitjee quest.... and try to solve diff. types of prob. and do thm quickly...... initially it takes time but try to be fast as u bcom stronger in ur concepts....... try to solve obj. in maths side by side, bcos shortcuts r very much necessary......... chem... org.....dont go 4 morison boyd........ go 4 solomon and fryhle, bcos its systematic 4 theory and 4 quest. fiitjee is the best.. if u read morison u will be lost,,,,,,, i say u. concentrate on ur concepts.. its imp physical...... i m very poor but still i find RC mukharjee best now.... it is now making me stronger inorg.......... make notes of imp. trends and exceptions..... ur notes will serve as ur best guide....... try to do many quest...... best carefully be thorough in practicals specially salt test............... ur concepts dont count much here wat is imp. is ur knowledge........ NOTE; very imp........ before going through any chapter quest first just have a glance on prev. yr iit quest( all of thm frm the chap.) it will give u a gud idea of wat to read for iit ......... becos there are a lot of uselessthings after which time can easily be wasted Cheers!!!!!!!!!
