ok.. hope you have the patience to read all this.. it took me some time..

hcv is a great book, but most people only understand its value after a long time. yes, its very simple, but ALL types of problems are covered. this book is more than enough for a very brilliant student.. but lets face it, not all of us are so lucky... the best thing for you to do now is do ALL HCV sums, and also try to do DCP level 1. let me tell you another thing.. try to do the calculations of hcv mentally.. it makes you very very fast.

dcp does not teach many concepts, but it gives a good idea of the type of questions any difficult exam may ask. do the past jee questions from here. and when you have enough experience and confidence do level 2 and 3.

after about 3 months, when you have enough experience of the whole JEE preparation thing, just read through the sums of hcv, no need to do them. then you will understand what a good book it is.

about MCQ..
personally i dont think there is anything great about it. but a lot of teachers do. so its up to you here. it just gives a good idea on how to get a sum correct even if you dont know very much just by eliminating the wrong options. yes, this is helpful for objective papers, but its silly to waste time doing this elimination when you should be learning something that would help you get the same sum correct if it was a more difficult question..

thats all
best of luck
shreyas.

Abe mana that you are too intelligent to solve all problems of HCV easily but it is the greatest book of physics till date. Most precise, Best theory and concepts and all types and quality of questions. It helps a lot in clearing and strengthening ur concepts.

hadnt u solved hcv ..u wud have found ques from other books even more harder

...hcv is for buiding concepts ..which is d most important of them all..

hcv is starting book for iit physics u have to admit that its a damn good book..........the theory is well explained and ya problems r simple..........but if u see carefully only the first 20 sums r really simple in the sense direct formula....the basic idea of the author is to familiarise u with the formulas........but after 20 ques the prob become little tough but not very tough...........finally the last 5 ques r really good...........they can be assumed of jee level ............after finishing hcv u can go for ie eridov and if u can do that also then u will definitly clear jee physics

i agree with shreyas that hcv is a good book....

but sorry dude i don't agree that dc pandey is not that good

look

i have done both books and wat i observed is that once your concepts are "clear",then rarely u will face problem in HCV.........the concepts are explained exceptionally well  in hcv but according to me they are explained in a better way in DCPANDEY

reading hcv would be better if u are reading it for learning physics.....but to be frank  thats not the case with most of us.......we are learning physics to crack jee and nothing else

hcv does explains concepts in fluent way.....but jee aspirants also need to learn application of these concepts in shortest possible time.........they need to learn the shortcuts,............they not only need to learn where a concept is applied but also where its application can go wrong

u not only need to know the concepts but also its loopholes where u might commit mistakes

and here DC PANDEY has an edge

and i would seriously say that in lot of aspects i have found dcpandey more useful

it has explained theory and concepts in a very practical way

along with it the shortcuts and several tricks have been provided which makes u solve problem in no time

for example,

in calculation of resistance between 2 points...there are around 4 or 5 pages in which he has explained how u can solve problem by applying various symmetries .........it was awesome as compared to only application of kirchoff law in hcv

to crack jee,,,,u need to learn a sort of "UNCONVENTIONAL PHYSICS" which is not provided by hcv but by dcp

and also questions are really good

NO OFFENSE TO ANY HCV LOVER.........

but i found dcp a very good and complete book

i would recommend dcp for any jee aspirant
