for an arbitrary fn. y=f(x) [ a][ b] f(x)dx represents area bounded by the curve bet^n x = a and x = b.
what will it represent if we divide the above integral by the lenght of ab.
 
 
eg. y = sin(x)
So     { [ 0][ ] sin(x)dx } /  = ?

this concept is used to calculate rms and average current in AC. See HCV
