the ans given in book is a,it hhas been solved by taking ONLY lambda as independent parameter .MY QUESTION ID WHY a and b ARE NOT TAKEN TO BE INDEPENDENT PARAMETER???????????????????????????

maybe theyve correspondingly equated it to the ellipse eqn. where x, a, b , y are inter dependent

HEY SPIDY HOW U SOLVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN ANY EXAM, how 2 know which is indepent an whicch is dependent,.
WHERE ARE THE EXPERTS????????

It is customary to use a, b, g and a, b, c, d. as constant l, m, n and x, y, z as variables. so l, m, n are treated as dependent variables as x,y,z are main variables.
