Dear Admin,
To begin with, thank you maintaing such a wonderful website. Goiit has been a core element in JEE preparation and has surely helped us in umpteen ways. Words cannot possible describe our gratitude.
I would like to make certain suggestions which I (and most of my friends) feel would help improve the quality of the forums/website.
1.       The text editor - No offense, but the editor is not very useful. It takes a lot of time to type using it and moreover it doesn't function properly. Often, the entire post just gets erased for no reason. And you know how irritating that can get, especially after one types a really long post and is just about to press the post button.
I think it would be useful if you incorporate latex or equation editor as it is 100 times easier to understand and also saves a hell lot of time.  Many of the users are already well versed in latex.

2.       Altitudes - Though altitudes are a wonderful way of keeping track of one's progress and also maintain the competitive spirit, it's purpose is being eroded ever since the community shelf was introduced. Altitudes no longer represent the "skill" or "effort" taken by the users. Any person who can cut/copy/paste from the net and post in the community shelf can acquire up to 1000 points within a couple of days. Hence I suggest, the altitude be divided into 2 : one for problem solving and other for contribution to goiit.

3.       Experts/Moderators - Though we do have an excellent expert panel, most of them are inactive. There are some who have never made a post. Shocked  Please do something about the situation. I would suggest making hsbhatt (maths), feynnman(physics) and dev_22oct (chemistry) experts immediately.  All of them are simply superb.

4.       Challenge forums/mock tests/goiit tests - As you may have noticed, lately students have been holding a lot of mock tests/challenges. It would be nice if a separate sub forum was made for these.  Also,  it would be help the students in their preparations very much if goiit was to hold a test series and give the marks/rankings etc  along with solutions to the questions.

5.       Forums in general - It would be nice if subforums were introduced for important sticky posts/latex help etc. Please open a sub forum for Olympiads (INMO, KVPY etc) as most JEE aspirants train for them. Can you include an option in the main page to show your posts/unanswered posts.  Try to include the option of holding polls. Also, when a person edits a post, please add a notification at the bottom that the post has been edited at so-and-so time.

6.       Nudgebooks - There is no scope for private conversations in goiit and most of students end up using gtalk, yahoo messenger etc.  Can you open a chat room for goiit? Regarding nudgebooks, one should be given the option of making his/her nudgebook private.
Thank you for your time.
Konichiwa2x.

I agree with Koni regarding the first 5 issues pointed out.

But as for the nudge book issue,i disagree with Koni

making the nudgebook public ensures that no conversation goes beyond the control or the notice of the Moderation team, hence they shouldnt be made private

Sir,
Read
 I too agree wid Koni.Yup
Cool (speak)
It wud b nice if one's altitude culd be divided into 2 as Koni has pointed out.
Or maybe for problem solving u culd have ranks seperately (5 stars n the like..)
Razz
(just a suggsn.)
I feel 2 bring in some privacy it'll be better 2 have nudgebooks as private.

1. I agree with Koni that the editor should incorporate Latex. It is useful throughout the forum. It is simple to learn and use, but more importantly, it makes eveyrone's posts more intelligible and less ambiguous.

2. Second, perhaps some sort of gradation like introductory, intermediate and advanced. The idea is this: I personally think this forum is a great place to hone your skills, especially if some teachers and experts participate and guide discussions. So, we should make it feasible for a new student to enter the forum without feeling intimidated because with time he/she can grow into a great contributor to the forum. Not everyone may be willing to pay the price of looking foolish for a while. That way, a participant can enter into a zone he is comfortable with and then work his way up

Some really good participants pose problems that are at times above JEE level, and if I could say this not really required for JEE. Such problems could easily dent the confidence of others who are striving to get there. Placing it in 'advanced' would keep confusion out of many minds. This entails a moderator to appropriately move problems into the right categories if required.

3. Regarding rates: Well my fear is for some who have notched up a huge total without really exercising their mind on problems posed in the forums. Poems, wisecracks and GKNW else. I have been through some of your solutions to problems. All I can predict is that the next few months have rude surprises in store for you.

I possible lets restrict rates to only the problem sub-forums. Rates for articles, I dont think are an issue, yet if some feel that these are easy-come, then suggest some other incentive.

4. Regarding the policy on experts: I would say let market forces decide. Expert is just a badge you carry. But, the forum-members automatically gravitate to the problem solvers. artofproblemsolving.com is a good model because they have nominated only moderators and no experts.

(But, if you still need experts): Being senior to most of the participants, my frank observation is that we must not have JEE aspirants as experts. You guys are young and it is easy to develop a false sort of complacence. Beware of that false pride. No one can be too good.

5. Smileys: Add Wallbash Red to Koni's list. I will find some more later, but this one is damn useful.

Everything that koni said had been in my ( and many others' ) mind  for the past few weeks.

I don't mean to offend anyone but what I feel is that after making this amazingly useful forum , the administrators have not done much to improve it as per the needs of the users.

I will add my extra opinion

1.An interface for mock tests should be implemented where users can  add new tests ,take the tests and know their marks.

2. A warning should be given if someone has posted while we were typing. Often we see messages like " Oh! I didn't see that you posted before me" . Another option would be to allow users to delete their posts atleast within 5 minutes of posting .
